An Ode To Carlos Falchi’s Iconic Buffalo Bag

The fashion community lost a bright star this weekend with the passing of legendary accessories designer Carlos Falchi. He got his start in Greenwich Village in the ’70s making hand stitched patchwork clothing for musicians including Patti Smith, Miles Davis, Tina Turner and Mick Jagger. In 1980 his slouchy Buffalo bag took the world by storm and became the It-bag of the era—WWD said the design was “the most copied bag in the industry.” Since he had a penchant for python, we rounded up our favorite snake-print shoulder bags, including our favorite: A pristine vintage red python bag by the late, great Carlos Falchi.
