A Day In The Life Of An NYC-Based Fashion Designer

by Shannon Nash

Elizabeth Giardina is Derek Lam’s right-hand woman, when it comes to conceptualizing his downtown, cool-girl line: Derek Lam 10 Crosby. As Vice President of Design since the launch in 2012, Elizabeth’s schedule is filled with collection meetings, inspiration trips, photo shoots and power lunches—basically she landed the dream job of anyone who wants to work in the fashion industry. We were curious what the demands of a high-octane post entail, so we asked Elizabeth to document her day from sunrise to sunset. Here, moments from her stylish life in NYC and our favorite picks from the line.

Inside The World Of A Fashion VP

Early Morning Accessorizing

"The first thing I do in the morning is decide on the fragrance and jewelry I want to wear."

Dance Party Workout

"My preferred workout is the Miami-inspired Hip Hop cardio class at 305 Fitness. Nothing wakes me up better than dancing to a live DJ at 7am. (I'm wearing our 10 Crosby x Athleta collaboration seamless top today)."

Work Uniform

"My work uniform is a black Wolford leotard top and Derek Lam 10 Crosby pants."

Digital Drawings

"My office space is organized chaos—dominated by the iPad Pro (my new tool for sketching)."

Total Focus

"People would be surprised to know a typical day involves meditation. I am naturally a high-energy person and need to spend at least 13 minutes a day centering myself."

Happy Hour

"After work I love to go out, eat delicious food, drink wine and make new friends—I think it is the Midwestern girl in me."

Beauty Arsenal

"My beauty rituals include a gentle cleanser and toner. Right now I'm currently using Shiseido, a small amount of prescription retinol cream, Homeoplasmine, Papaw ointment and argan oil. I like my skin to be highly moisturized and I wear minimal make-up."

True Romance

"My Zen place is being near my husband Darius (seen here on a work call and tolerating my selfie taking)."
