We were hoping to get our first look at the new Taylor Swift, to whom we were introduced in her latest single “Look What You Made Me Do,” during a surprise duet with Katy Perry during last weekend’s Video Music Award. But alas, that never happened. We did, however, see a few revamped versions of old Taylors (“You Belong With Me” Taylor and “Shake It Off” Taylor, for example) as the music video premiered during the show. But now we’re getting our first look a T-Swift since she laid her former self metaphorically to rest: On Saturday, the star fulfilled bridesmaid duties for long-time friend Abigail Anderson’s—you know, the one who “Fifteen” was written about?—wedding in Martha’s Vineyard. Wearing a wine-colored chiffon halter dress with matching lips and soft, loose waves, this first glimpse of New Taylor looked refreshingly not too different from the old one: effortlessly elegant, a la Fall 2016. Not that we mind a little edge sometimes, but this flawless bridesmaid look remind us how we love seeing the softer side of Taylor as well. We’ll be looking forward to catching her next public appearance to see for sure if she’s got a new vibe.
