Political beliefs aside, Michelle Obama has undoubtedly maintained a flawless, fashion-forward demeanor during her tenure as First Lady. She’s been a champion for many up-and-coming American designers, including Prabal Gurung and Christian Siriano. And when her husband, President Barack Obama, made his final speech as president—and literally dropped the mic—he wasn’t the only one who took the opportunity to pay homage to the duo’s first days in the White House. FLOTUS chose a classically feminine lace dress for the occasion: a custom design by Jason Wu, the man behind her memorable 2009 inauguration dress (he also designed her 2013 inauguration gown). Daughter Malia, who accompanied her parents, seems to be following in her mom’s stylish footsteps. She picked a cool, color-block dress by emerging NYC brand Cinq à Sept. Leave it to this family to have a meaningful send-off, right down to what they wore.
