Let’s face it: there’s no denying it’s been a tough couple of weeks. We have all felt the need for inspiration of late, and last night the cast of Hamilton: An American Musical–the wildly popular Broadway sensation that’s almost impossible to get tickets to–delivered. Following the conclusion of their show Friday night, where Vice President-elect Mike Pence was in attendance, cast member Brandon Dixon who plays Aaron Burr in the musical, delivered a heartfelt, inspiring message directly to him. After thanking Vice President-elect Pence for attending, he went on to deliver this speech:
“We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But, we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us. All of us.”
The moment, which was captured by several members of the audience, was accompanied by boos and cheers from the crowd. And while emotions may have ran high the hopeful tone of the speech was undisputable.
