Don’t Miss The Biggest Event of 2016

by Erin Bunch

On June 14, hundreds will gather at the White House—hundreds of women, that is—for the first-ever United State of Women summit. A short video released in advance of the event features Tina Fey, Meryl Streep, Christy Turlington, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Kerry Washington and more, and the powerful words uttered by these powerful women in this promo gave us chills.

According to an essay penned by the First Lady, this summit—which is a collaboration between the White House Council on Women and Girls, the Department of State, the Department of Labor, the Aspen Institute and Civic Nation, the Ford Foundation, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women, the PepsiCo Foundation, and the Tory Burch Foundation—will focus discussions around economic empowerment, health and wellness, educational opportunity, violence against women, entrepreneurship, leadership and civic engagement.

5,000 lucky women have registered to attend the June 14 event in D.C., but fret not if you’re not among them; you can livestream the summit on Tuesday at 5 P.M. here. Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, who will be co-hosting a conversation on the specific challenges they’ve encountered as women, are currently soliciting your questions, to be answered live during the event. Tweet yours to @FLOTUS or @Oprah using the hashtag #StateofWomen, and let the countdown to this monumental evening begin!
