Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Kidney Transplant

by Allie Flinn

In September, Selena Gomez surprised us by sharing that she underwent a kidney transplant over the summer as part of her treatment for lupus—and her close friend Francia Raísa was the donor. Now the singer and her friend are speaking out for the first time in an exclusive interview with Today. NBC released a clip of the interview, which will air next week, and if it doesn’t make you tear up you’re probably a cyborg.

Selena gets emotional describing how Francia saved her life, saying that when she found out she needed a transplant she didn’t want to ask anyone for help. “My kidneys were just done,” she says. “That was it. And I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life—and she volunteered and did it.”

Now that is friendship. Our hearts go out to Selena and Francia. Watch the full clip below.
