A Day In The Life Of A Fashion CEO

by Shannon Nash

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a fashion CEO? Well, for Jane Shepherdson, who holds the top post at Whistles—one of our favorite style destinations across the pond—this role involves rising bright and early, making a little time for herself amid her jam-packed schedule, and keeping her finger on the pulse of all things fabulous. Here, Jane takes us along for a day of work and play.

A Day In The Life Of Jane Shepherdson, CEO of Whistles

Morning Swim

"I woke early this morning, around 6:30, so I decided to cycle to the London Fields Lido for a swim in the wonderful outdoor heated pool. There’s no better feeling than swimming in the winter with the rain on your face. It's so refreshing! Making my hair look presentable after the swim is less fun."

Power Breakfast

"After that, I felt as if I deserved scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toast in one of the cafes in Broadway Market: Climpson & Sons. A green juice makes me feel a little healthier as I go through e-mails and plan the day ahead before cycling along the canal to the office."

Fully Accessorized

"Today I’m wearing an insanely fluffy alpaca jumper from Whistles, raw indigo cropped jeans from Acne and bright-blue Miu Miu shoes, with my new Whistles cream shearling jacket."

Al Fresco Market

"I was inspired by the humor and easy familiarity of the stall holders at the market this morning. There was a real sense of community and shared purpose that you often don’t see."

Adorable Photo Bomb

"My first meeting was a catch-up with my PR and marketing team to discuss our new collaboration for spring 2016 with a very special Japanese brand. I popped in on the campaign shoot and my dog Dexter made it into the photo."

A Moment Of Downtime

"I took a quick peek at a little travel porn—One Fine Stay is my current favorite. I have to admit I'm slightly addicted to checking out all the gorgeous houses and apartments available. I’m so over hotels now!"

Dinner Date

"This evening, I went to check out the Little Viet Kitchen in Islington with my partner. It's new and has had some great reviews. It was delicious and reminded me of the street food in Vietnam: really fresh, light and tasty. After that I went home and watched an episode of Narcos, the brilliant drama about Pablo Escobar. "

Beauty Ritual

"I’m pretty low maintenance. My evening routine involves cleansing with Lancome cleansing milk, brushing my teeth, splashing my face with cold water, then moisturizing with Elemental Herbology night cream. I always try to read before sleeping to clear my mind of the daily stresses. At the moment I’m rereading ‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which is one of the most brilliant books I’ve ever read. Then I sleep for 8 hours."

Dreamy Horizons

"I’m dreaming about South America and when I'll return to those craggy mountains, everlasting plains and wild horses."
