Why Removing Old Self-Tan Should Start With Caring For Your Skin
Coco & Eve’s Tan Prep & Erase Scrub combines chemical and physical exfoliation with ingredients designed to soften skin.

Anyone who self-tans knows the cycle: Tan Thursday, the oversized T-shirt shuffle, trying not to touch anything until it develops. A week later comes the part nobody posts, when the color fades everywhere except your ankles, knees and hands. That stage is exactly what Coco & Eve’s new Tan Prep & Erase Scrub is built for The product combines two different kinds of exfoliation rather than asking one ingredient to do all the work, with glycolic and lactic acids handling part of the job chemically and perlite and pumice providing physical buffing.
Coco & Eve says the combination can help remove unwanted self-tan in 60 seconds. The formula also has to prepare the skin underneath for whatever comes next, which is why the company did not stop at stronger exfoliation.
Why Use Two Kinds Of Exfoliation?
Old self-tanner tends to be most obvious where the skin is already dry or uneven. Those are also the places someone may be tempted to scrub hardest, even though overdoing it can leave the area in worse shape before the next tan.
The acids in Tan Prep & Erase Scrub take some of that burden away from physical exfoliation. Instead of relying entirely on friction, the formula works on the surface chemically while the mineral exfoliants handle the buffing. Coco & Eve has also included urea to help soften rough skin, with coconut and papaya oils adding a more conditioning element.
The texture is described as whipped and silky, which matters. The product is competing with rough mitts and hard scrubbing, so the experience has to feel like body care rather than punishment for letting last week’s tan hang around too long.
Prep Has To Do More Than Remove Color
Self-tanner has a way of exposing uneven prep quickly, particularly where dry areas grab more color or remnants of an older application remain underneath.
Coco & Eve built much of its tanning reputation around the finished result, particularly through Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam. Tan Prep & Erase Scrub shifts attention backward to the surface the next tan is going onto.
The company is making that connection explicit with a Prep, Bronze & Glow Set that pairs the scrub with the bronzing foam. The pairing turns what might otherwise feel like cleanup into the first stage of another tanning session. The set comes with your choice of Bali Bronzing Foam in Medium, Dark or Ultra Dark, and both products share the same Golden Mango Melt scent, from prep to bronze.
There’s still plenty of brand personality around the technical side. The Golden Mango Melt scent opens with mango and pineapple before settling into coconut milk, vanilla and sandalwood, which makes the least glamorous step of the tanning cycle feel more like a vacation shower than a chore.
Your New Tan Timeline
The easiest way to think about the scrub is as the first step in a weekly loop rather than a cleanup job.
- Scrub day: Apply to dry skin, leave on for 60 seconds, then buff it away in the shower. Starting from bare skin? Just massage it in and rinse, no wait needed.
- Tan day: About 24 hours later, apply Bali Bronzing Foam to dry, moisturizer-free skin.
- Glow days: Moisturize daily, then repeat when the color fades, usually every five to seven days.
In the brand’s internal consumer trial, most testers said the scrub removed their tan in 60 seconds, while nearly all reported smoother skin and all said it left no greasy film.
It’s a small step, but it changes how the whole routine works. Instead of fighting last week’s tan, you’re starting each new one with a clean slate.
