Mikoh Designers Kalani And Oleema Miller Share Their Beauty Rules

It makes sense that the women behind cult-favorite swimwear line Mikoh would be beach babes in every way imaginable. A quick sweep through their Instagram feeds (@kalanimiller and @oleemamiller) makes it clear that sisters Kalani and Oleema Miller eat, sleep and breathe the water-baby culture their brand encapsulates. Although they live seemingly majestic lives (they take regular trips to Bali, Tahiti and other exotic locales, and Kalani dates surfing legend Kelly Slater), they keep their beauty routines low key, which means they’re easy to emulate. Here, the girls spill the beauty rules they live by.

Rule #1: Wear Sunscreen 24/7

"I never leave the house without sunscreen on my face and body, and when I'm going to beach, I make it even more of a ritual. Even though sunscreen may say it's water resistant, I always reapply after a dip in the ocean and throughout the day. I like Shade Sunscreen—it's matte and not oily and all naturally derived." —Oleema

Rule #2: Find Your Perfect Foundation

"Splurge on a good foundation—currently I'm loving the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup. Skin is incredibly important, so I would rather spend more on skincare products and makeup." —Kalani

Rule #3: Harness The Power Of Coconut Oil

"I moisturize my skin with coconut oil after a long day in the ocean and sun—there really is nothing better than lathering myself head-to-toe in organic, cold-pressed coconut oil and slipping into a robe. Not only does it smell amazing, but it leaves your skin baby soft." —Oleema

Rule #4: Take Time To Unwind

"I love the process of taking a shower and washing away the day, leaving it all behind. I do this every night and just reflect on the day." —Kalani

Rule #5: Commit To A Skincare Regimen

"I have a strict skincare regimen that I rarely break. Even if it's at 4 a.m. or I'm exhausted from a 15-hour flight, I never skip it. My process consists of a shower and then putting on my favorite face products, which include a serum, moisturizers and eye creams." —Oleema

Rule #6: Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

"I swear by the Japanese exfoliation towels I get at Whole Foods. I always have one in my suitcase when I travel—they're the perfect way to prep your skin for the sun or to get the last bit of sunscreen off." —Oleema

"Do a mask and exfoliating scrub every two weeks. I love doing it at home or on the road. It's a great time to relax and take an hour to concentrate on you!" —Kalani

Rule #7: Hydrate Inside And Out

"Hydrate. You'll never find me at the beach without a huge bottle of water, and I usually bring another beverage to keep me cool as well. My favorite is coconut water from Harmless Harvest." —Oleema

"Always moisturize your face. When my face isn’t feeling hydrated is when I feel like fine lines set in." —Kalani

Rule #8: Head To The Spa

"Even though they've been around forever, I recently had my first scrub at a Korean spa, and let's just say I'm now a devoted fan for life." —Oleema

Rule #9: Stock Up At Your Local Market

"Find things like lip products and body lotions at a natural market. For my skin, I love Mountain Ocean Skin Trip Coconut Moisturizer (which you can find at Whole Foods)." —Oleema
