3 Ways To Rock Bright-Color Makeup

When it comes to winter beauty, we’re all about a dash of bold-color makeup and messy, minimalist hair. Taking cues from the runways, Joey Maalouf and Rachel Zoe Studio’s Jordan Johnson demonstrate how to rock the trend without looking overdone. From bright orange lips and cobalt-lined eyes to all-over pastel pink, these fresh ideas will provide a cool update to your cold-weather beauty routine.

The Trend: Electric Orange Lips

Seen on the runway at Rag & Bone, Prabal Gurung and DKNY, this sporty, energetic color replaced classic red and bordeaux hues for a fresh new take on the bold lip.

Key Buy: Satin Lip Crayon

Nars' lip crayons are a TZR favorite and this just-released shade is our new obsession. Joey's tip: "If true orange intimidates you, mix it with a little bit of red lipstick for a fiery compromise."

On Jordan: Channeling Farrah Fawcett

Ultra-sporty wet-look hair complemented electric orange lips on the runway but in real life, Joey opted for a '70s vibe, pairing the bold lipstick with matte, flawless skin and tousled waves.

The Trend: Blue-Lined Eyes

Bright blue eye makeup has been a trend for several seasons but it was the dramaticly-lined look on Marc Jacobs' spring 2014 runway that convinced us we needed to try the look, stat.

Key Buy: Soft-Point Pencil

This creamy, neon-y blue eyeliner pencil from MAC is all you need to create the dramatic look from Marc's show. It's perfect for a night out, bringing little black dresses and tuxedo looks to life.

On Jordan: Dance-Floor Ready

Modifying the look for real life, Joey added a soft blue wash on top lids and extended the liner on the bottom lids out into a dramatic cat-eye shape. "This softens and adds femininity to the look and makes it just a little bit more dramatic for nighttime."

The Trend: All-Over Pastels

From Celine and Prada to Giorgio Armani, pastel makeup looks felt fresh against spring 2014's powerful and feminine clothing. We especially loved the all-over blush-tone look at Burberry, which Joey points out "is super convenient for the girl on the go...throw a pot of cream color in your bag and you're done."

Key Buy: Cream Color

Find the perfect pink for your skin tone in a silky, sheer formula like Butter London's 'cheeky' palettes. Use on lips, cheeks and eyelids, skipping drying powder formulas altogether.

On Jordan: All About Glow

To make sure skin glows with a healthy luminosity Joey moistrized Jordan's skin with facial oil before applying makeup and added a soft iridescent highlight to the corners of eyes. "Hydrated skin adds dimension and softness to the look - it's a can't-miss step."
