The Eye Shadow Mistake You Could Easily Be Making

We saw a lot of natural makeup on the runway this week and, don’t get us wrong, we love a fresh face, but with all the subtle tones dominating Fashion Week, let’s just say we got an extra thrill every time we saw a splash of color. At Thakoon, Altuzarra, and Delpozo, gorgeous pastel and sorbet colors popped up in an unlikely place—the eyes! It was love at first sight.

Alas, pastel shadow can go wrong quickly if you skip this crucial step we learned backstage: you should use a touch of Vaseline or a cream shadow to add a glossy sheen to lids before completing the look. The high shine finish will give your eyes a healthy, sultry glow and prevent you from looking washed out.

Be sure to keep the rest of your makeup neutral when amping up your eye game. Skip eyeliner altogether or go for one in subtle white and apply to the waterline to open up the eyes.

Ready to try this look but don’t have the right eye shadow on hand? Make like an expert and use your prettiest cream blush to add soft color and shine to lids.
