Throughout my 20s, I often heard that the best was yet to come and that there was so much to look forward to in my 30s. But I did not fully understand those words until I actually entered that decade of my life. Perhaps it was a bit of a placebo effect at play, or it was the inherent positivity that came with embracing one’s age, but my perspective on many aspects of life has improved — including my sense of style. Since hitting the big 3-0, I’ve gained a newfound self-assurance that has shifted my approach to getting dressed. After years of fashion experimentation (and investing in trends that proved fleeting), I’ve found a refreshing sense of wardrobe confidence, grounded in the knowledge that certain staples are indispensable for every fashion-minded woman.
The truth is, while I relish a maximalist fashion moment, I’ve also come to realize and appreciate that the outfits I continue to feel most confident in are often the simplest. A great pair of jeans paired with a crisp white tee, or a luxe jacket that effortlessly elevates, always does the trick for me. In the past, I might have been tempted to blow my shopping budget on fun and of-the-moment items, but investing in the basics that make me feel like a million dollars has become my new norm. I’ve grown to value lasting, high-quality pieces that I’ll be able to rely on without having to think twice while getting dressed on any given day, even as the fashion world evolves and trends shift.
While there will always be room for an occasional splurge on something less timeless, first, I plan to perfect my foundational wardrobe. Keep reading to see the 10 essentials that are non-negotiable investments for me... and (in my opinion) should be for every 30-something as well.
