lululemon’s New Ballet-Inspired Collab Will Replace Your Old Workout Gear In The Prettiest Way
Whether you take professional classes, pop into barre every week, or just aspire to look like you've walked off the set of Center Stage, the ballet-inspired workout clothing from lululemon's Royal Ballet Collection will leave you wanting to dance. The athletic gear retailer has joined forces with The Royal Ballet of London’s Principal Dancer, Francesca Hayward, to co-create a line of pieces that will replace your old workout gear with elegant, pastel-filled activewear.
At a time of year when you're looking to hit refresh on everything from the shoes in your closet to the shampoo in your shower, it also makes for the ideal moment to update your current athletic-wear — and this new limited-edition collection may be the answer. Inspired by ballet but designed for movement across a variety of activities, the collection, which ranges in price from $58 to $148, brings in elements of The Royal Opera House as well as Hayward's personal aesthetic. These details, combined with feminine silhouettes and a rich color palette, gives this collection an elevated feel.
Functional and pretty, the 17-piece collection is composed of everything from essential leggings and bras to items traditionally associated with ballet, such as lightweight leotards for $78, cozy leg warmers for $58, and an elegant circle skirt for $68. Multiple pieces in the collection infuse design elements inspired by the vintage corsetry from the collection of The Royal Ballet atelier, including the Principal Dancer Corsetry Bra for $68 and Principal Dancer Corsetry Tight for $118, all in fabrics that are designed to allow you to move with ease.
"I love how the collection feels strong but feminine in its shape, how the clothes feel against my skin, and how I am free to move and dance in them with no restrictions," said Hayward in a press release from lululemon.
Another nod to The Royal Opera House as well as Hayward’s love of gold can be seen woven into the bands of the Principal Dancer Golden Lining Bralette for $58 and the $98 Principal Dancer Golden Lining Tight. Coming in army green, maroon, and black, these styles look expensive without the high sticker price, and in super soft, lightweight fabrics, you won’t be in any rush to take them off after your workout.
Almost the entire collection is composed of pieces designed to be both comfortable and elevated, with soft fabrics like cashmere jersey, merino wool, and cupro that you'll feel just as good lounging around in as you will wearing out and about. The Principal Dancer Funnel Neck Sweater (which is $108) and the Principal Dancer Hoodie for $128 (the inside is velour) as well as a slew of other pretty, draped pieces are prime examples of that.
