Kate Middleton Found The One Gray Blazer Your Closet Needs

While royal fans were busy raving over the tailored jacket Meghan Markle wore on her third day in New Zealand, the Duchess of Cambridge had a blazer moment of her own. Both duchesses wore sleek outer layers with their all-black outfits on Tues., but there's a good chance you'll want to pick up Kate Middleton's gray blazer for your own collection.

It isn't often that both royal women wear similar pieces on the same day. Just a week before, for instance, Markle and Middleton both attended state dinners, but only Middleton wore a tiara. And while the sisters-in-law probably don't coordinate their looks (although it is funny to imagine them planning outfits over the phone on the evening before), their ensembles on Tues. were nonetheless quite alike.

The Duchess of Cambridge just visited the charity Coach Core in Essex, England, alongside Prince William wearing a black turtleneck, black skinny jeans, and a pair of suede ankle booties by Aquatalia that she loves. The best part of Middleton's outfit, however, was her equestrian-inspired checkered corduroy blazer. The impeccably tailored riding jacket by Smythe features a fabulous contrast collar, two oversized, black leather buttons in the front, and a subtle slit in the back. The Duchess wore the menswear-style blazer unbuttoned, with her hair down in loose waves and simple square diamond earrings, altogether creating an understated-yet-polished look.

Get The Look

The last time Middleton made an appearance was at the Oct. 23 state banquet with the King and Queen of Holland, when she channeled her inner Cinderella in a baby-blue Alexander McQueen mermaid-cut gown and several jewels from the royal vault, including Princess Diana's Lover's Knot tiara. A stark contrast, her latest look underlines the Duchess' more casual side.

When she's not adorned in century-old accessories and attending events with the Queen, the mom of three lives in boots and skinny jeans. In fact, she's been wearing the same Penelope Chilvers Long Tassel Boot for 14 years straight. It's no secret that the Duchess knows how to elevate her look with a sleek blazer, either, and she often opts for one by Smythe.

Middleton actually sported one of the designer's single-button blazers so frequently that it's now named the Duchess Wool Blazer, (it's available in 10 colors). The 36-year-old typically wears the wardrobe staple in her usual hues — navy blue, military green, and neutrals, like the latest gray tweed piece.

The two-toned Smythe blazer is a perfect layer to take an all-black outfit like Middleton's to the next level. Ready to copy the Duchess' casual look? Ahead, The Zoe Report's favorite Middleton-approved blazers for an easy, foolproof outfit.
