Guerlain Expanded Its Art Of Materials Fragrance Collection With The Perfect Fall Scent

As August approaches and you start looking toward fall, you may find you're ready to bring a new scent into your lineup for the months ahead. And, while your vanity likely already holds fragrances featuring notes of rose, lavender, or jasmine, this season, Guerlain's Embruns d'Ylang Eau de Parfum will allow you to spritz on a more rare floral essence. The luxury beauty brand has unveiled its latest scent, and it brings a less-used but equally captivating flower into the mix: ylang-ylang.

Ringing in for $260 a bottle, this new perfume joins Guerlain's Art of Materials Collection, which includes other luxe fragrances like "Cruel Gardénia" and "Joyeuse Tubéreuse." This group is noted on the brand's website to be "a range of fragrances for aficionados of rare scents, those who appreciate noble raw materials and refinement down to the last detail."

For the latest fragrance, Guerlain’s Master Perfumer Thierry Wasser traveled to the Comoros archipelago in the Indian Ocean to source the ylang-ylang essence from its natural place. The flower's bold essence is described by the brand in a press release as a blend of "exotic fruity facets with smooth, honeyed accents." This aroma is then combined with heart notes of sambac jasmine and cloves.

Yet when you first apply the perfume, you'll be met with fresh salty notes reminiscent of sea spray as well as hints of bergamot. Meanwhile, base notes of patchouli, iris, and vanilla will continue to linger on your skin. This combination of flowery, salty, and woody notes results in a spicy floral fragrance that's perfect for day-to-night wear, and will provide the ideal scent to help you transition into fall.

Like the rest of the scents, this perfume is housed in the collection’s signature rectangular bottle that's adorned with a golden metal label on the side and topped off with a wooden cap (so it'll make for a beautiful addition to your vanity, too).
