The Jared Leto-Backed App Bringing Money to the Masses

An app with an unlikely set of backers–including Jared Leto and Snoop Dogg–is trying to democratize the financial market so that when it comes to investing, it’s no longer true that only the rich get richer. Fittingly, the app is called RobinHood, and its platform allows individuals to engage in stock trading free of charge and with no minimum investment requirements. The app isn’t just cost-effective, however; it’s also incredibly easy to use, so much so that you can trade stocks like a pro with just a couple of quick clicks.

To begin, all you have to do is connect your bank account, transfer the amount you want to begin investing, search for the stocks/companies you’re interested in investing in (e.g. Tinder, SoulCycle), and click to buy shares. The app provides you with news related to the stock as well, so you can make relatively informed decisions about your buys. While this simple method of investing is unlikely to yield you the results you’d get from a trained broker, it’s perfect for those of us who want to dip a toe in the pool, aren’t yet millionaires, generally struggle just to keep up with our Mint.com accounts, and just want to be somehow associated with Jared Leto.
