We can’t imagine Jessica Alba’s life is very zen, given she runs a billion-dollar business and has two kids with a third on the way. After all, we’re anxious all day, every day, and we have none of those things! Still, the actress and entrepreneur appeared calm backstage during New York Fashion Week, so much so that she was asked how she keeps so cool. “I like to listen to meditations. I did TM [transcendental meditation] but I find it’s kind of tough to meditate on your own—for me—so I like Headspace. You can do five-minute meditations, ten-minute mediations … and you can go to whatever it is you’re dealing with. It’s pretty dope.” This is a simple trick to copy—check out our beginner’s guide to meditation for details on how to get your own busy-girl practice started.
Some of the badass businesswoman’s other anxiety-busters sound easy to emulate too. “I try to make sure that I eat a good dinner, and I get at least five or six hours of sleep—and drink tons of water. I find there’s nothing that replaces something just so basic.” We agree, though we imagine she’s either a fantastic cook—because she’s clearly perfect—or she has someone do the meal prep for her. While we can’t afford our own personal chef, we can order a version of this experience via, say, Purple Carrot and other meal-kit-delivery companies or cook our own healthy meals utilizing these Trader Joe’s meal hacks. As for sleep, well, that’s always a tough nut to crack, but if a pregnant woman with two small children and massive business obligations can do it, so can we; here, 21 sleep hacks that actually work.
Jessica’s final relaxation tip is, like the rest, both relatable and attainable. “I like to take a shower at night. I feel like taking a shower or taking a bath, it just kind of like—I wind down.” We are so on board with this nighttime routine, though we prefer to be horizontal and as extra as possible while cleansing in the PM. Try these seven super-charged bath routines to zen out your evening in ways even Jessica Alba has yet to discover.
