Our forever favorite Kate Moss let Architectural Digest into her London home for the magazine’s September issue, and of course what the publication found did not disappoint. Most notably, the supermodel’s bathroom is literally the powder room of our dreams. Being that she’s never been one for mornings, Kate tells AD she wanted the decor of the room to evoke the feeling of dusk, her favorite time of day. To aid in this effort, she commissioned bespoke interiors house de Gournay to create a hand-painted wallpaper that’s essentially more artful than all the actual art in our homes, combined. The flowers portrayed on it are anemones, said to signify luck.
If you think bespoke wallpaper is impressive, we invite you to now envision it set against a clawfoot tub, above which dangles a vintage crystal chandelier. Nearby, above a mirrored vanity, hang black-and-white photos of fellow icons like Elizabeth Taylor and David Bowie as well as a triptych of photos of Moss with her friend the late Alexander McQueen. This is the setting Kate has created for her baths, which include a blend of Santa Maria Novella carnation oil and magnesium flakes.
Hot soaks aren’t the room’s only purpose, however—she tells AD her parties often involve this non-traditional hangout space. “I love those old movies with glamorous bathrooms where they have chaise longues. My bathroom in the country has a chesterfield, and when I have my birthday parties there, we always end up hanging out in it. It’s got a record player, it’s cozy, it’s fun—there’s potions and lotions and smelly things. Everyone’s welcome.”
We never considered throwing a party in our bathroom, but this could be because ours only allows enough space for a party of one. Kate’s ornate lounge is definitely #goals, however, and now we won’t die happy until we’ve involved crystal chandeliers and record players in our own.
