Why The New Gucci Collection Won Us Over

by Nicky Deam

We love high-octane glamour as much as the next girl but super body-hugging, hyper-sexy dressing is not really our thing, save for the occasional date night. Until recently, we associated Gucci with strong smoky eyes and slinky gowns, a kind of vixen-like aesthetic to which we felt largely disconnected. Then the new Creative Director Alessandro Michele took the helm and turned out a shockingly disheveled, bohemian-infused collection for Fall 2015. Fast forward through months of Gucci’s fur-lined loafers appearing on the feet of everyone from street-style stars to It girls and the tide has officially turned. His romantic and at times androgynous approach has brought Gucci back to the fore, skyrocketing the Italian brand to the top of our wish list and the Spring 2016 collection—shown today in Milan—has only solidified our position. Filled with unexpected color pairings, diaphanous dresses and whimsical accessories (not to mention some strong art-teacher vibes), our inner fashion geeks couldn’t be happier. Here, our favorite looks from the new collection and a few of the in-store items we’re coveting now.
