All The Fashion Trends You’ll Want To Stock Up On—And Get Rid Of—Before Summer Ends

by Samantha McDonald

We’re more than halfway through summer, which means the opportunities to nail every trend are waning, and a new season—with all its impending wardrobe additions—is looming. To make sure the precious space in our closets is being put to good use, we read up on online thrift store ThredUp’s recent survey that reveals a few of summer’s unexpected style winners and losers thus far. Trends on the upswing since the spring are millennial pink (a 99% increase in items purchased), metallics (a similar 99% growth), wide-legged jeans (a 10% rise) and distressed denim (85%). Headed the other direction are coral hues, floral prints, cropped jeans in dark washes and—ouch!—our beloved frayed-hem jeans. As for brand names, Kate Spade continues to sell with a 95% spike in handbag purchases, while Ralph Lauren and Michael Michael Kors are being swapped for Madewell and Longchamp. Cool-girl destination Everlane has apparently risen above brands like Candies and Aéropostale. While we don’t advocate doggedly following these trends (or any trend that doesn’t make you feel great), if you’re in the mood for metallics, millennial pink or wide-legged denim, we’ve got you covered.
