Chanel took its 2019 cruise collection very seriously this year. So serious, in fact, that Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld commissioned a 330-foot-long ocean liner to be constructed in the middle of the show’s Grand Palais venue in Paris. (Fun fact: The ship’s name, La Pausa, was an homage to the French villa built for Coco Chanel herself in the 1930s.) With a backdrop like that, it’s no wonder last night’s runway extravaganza brought out the crème de la crème. Celebs and It girls like Margot Robbie, Kristen Stewart and Lily Rose Depp arrived in full Chanel regalia to feast their eyes on the festive vessel and stunning wares.
Not to be outshone by the Titanic-like structure, the cruise collection itself made heads turn via confetti-splattered separates, airy marine-hued summer dresses, red lamé leather and, of course, chic denim-hemmed tweed suits.
