Ask Rachel: How To Dress Your Man

Share

Erin,

Your query comes at the perfect time, because today is actually Rodger’s birthday, so a spotlight on menswear is so called for! In general, many of the same style guidelines that apply to women also pertains to men…the perfect outfit is something with a flattering fit—not too bulky or too tight—with a few thoughtfully-chosen accessories and a pop of color.

For starters, I would make sure your guy has at least one amazing pair of designer jeans in a dark wash. This may seem obvious, but denim has really evolved over the years and now works with everything from business casual to black tie.

Next, since it is fall, focus on outerwear and find your man a cool army jacket to give his look a timeless update. For shoes, I am all about a lace-up or slip-on ankle boot, new or vintage. Plus, they’re much more versatile option than sneakers :).

Of course, no man’s wardrobe is complete without some sophisticated add-ons. I suggest throwing a scarf, subtle jewelry (like a dog tag necklace) and cross-body “man bag” into the mix—though not necessarily all in the same outfit. Now, all that is left to do is stand back and observe your fashionable fellow! xoRZ
