Neo-Feminist Fashion We Love (And The Celebs Who Do Too)

by Kristi Mikesky

The word “feminist” has taken on a multitude of meanings to different people—but in its simplest form, we like to consider it an empowering term, and one that celebrates women banding together in the name of gender equality, societal advancement and supporting general female badassery.

For ladies that fall more on the “loud and proud” end of the spectrum—no shame to the quieter camp!—what better way to make yourself seen and heard than wearing a girl-power message on your sleeve (or wrist, or chest)? Take Clare V’s latest collab, for one: In honor of the anticipated film Suffragette, a chronicle of the early feminist movement in London, the designer has produced a capsule of clutches and tops emblazoned with text that harken back to the key themes in the movie, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting Every Mother Counts. Meryl Streep, who stars in the film, walked the red carpet at the LA premiere alongside her daughter Mamie Gummer, both carrying the limited-edition clutches in support. Another brand, LA-based Otherwild, made quite a splash after St. Vincent was spotted wearing their “The Future Is Female” tee, whose original concept was derived from a photo taken by Liza Cowan in 1975. 25% of proceeds of the t-shirt are donated to Planned Parenthood to further the cause.

We anticipate these to be just a small representation of many future feminist designs that prove hard-hitting among the celebrity sphere. Scoop up these selects to rep your lady pride in style.
