It might not have been the most politically correct statement ever made about women, but Lanvin Creative Director Alber Elbaz was probably just having a bit of fun when he spoke to WWD about the brand’s new Dubai store on Wednesday night, saying:
“There isn’t a difference between French women, women in America, women in Dubai. Women are all alike everywhere in the world: Everybody’s on a diet, and everybody’s counting calories, and everyone’s craving chocolate, and everyone loves to have a red dress with a huge diamond necklace. There is this common thing about women everywhere.”
We may disagree with the French designer’s opinions on women and dieting, but that bit about the red dress? Yeah, we’re pretty much on the same page (remember Julia Roberts in that red gown in Pretty Woman? Us too.).
