"As the fall creeps into our lives, darkening the evenings earlier and making us all want to nest, here are my tips to warm your decorative hearts."
Trade out your pillows...
"Pillows are an amazing way to transform your living room for fall. Swap out your colorful or floral pillows with cozy faux fur, solid warm toned velvets or woven wool throw pillows. These textures give an instant season-changing appearance and add a luxury factor that makes your home cozier." Try: Etro Faux Fur Pillow ($192), Z Gallerie Mongolian Pillow ($130), West Elm Gilded Cable Pillow Cover ($44) and Studded Velvet Pillow Cover ($34)
Bring on the blankets...
"A great way to add autumnal shades to your space without a major change of palette is to fold a beautiful lambswool (or cashmere if you wanna go wild) throw blanket over the arm of your favorite club chair or sofa arm. This will not only welcome those 'snuggled up in front of the fire' nights when you can cozy with a warm blanket, it makes a real fall statement. Functional luxury!" Try: JCP Home Plaid Throw ($40)
Cue the mood lighting...
"I always start to light my fireplaces at this time of the year (even though in LA I sometimes still have the a/c on too), it makes me feel like the fall has come. If you don't have a fireplace, a great way to bring this feeling in is to group 5 or more candles of different heights together on a cool wooden or lacquered tray on your coffee table. This creates an inviting glow that is both welcoming and really gives the next best thing to a real fireplace." Try: Pottery Barn Pillar Candles ($4-$34) and Sur La Table Acacia Tray ($50)
Celebrate fall fragrances...
"Room fragrances, either sprays, plug ins or perfumed candles, can help enormously with the ambiance of a season. In the fall I start to burn and spray rich smelling fragrances. Red currant, mahogany and agar wood candles are favorites of mine. They remind me of fall and the upcoming fun of thanksgiving. As one of our strongest senses, fragrance really helps decorate a space and transitions the seasons." Try: Cochine Agarwood Diffuser ($70), Cire Trudon Merida Candle ($90) and Jo Malone Room Spray ($55)
Ground your space..
"If you're lucky enough to have wood floors or even a flat pile carpet, a great fall update is to add a rug to your floor. Go for something that has warm tones and will give an inviting look to your space. Another fun way to welcome in fall is to add a fluffy white sheepskin rug to either side of your bed, or In front of your bathtub. This moment of luxury is not only inviting to your feet, its also a great fall visual statement." Try: Z Gallerie Indochine Rug ($200-$800) and Auckland Rug ($300-$500)
Let there be light...
"I love lamp lighting in my rooms, it's always more ambient than overhead lighting and quite honestly more flattering. As the seasons change and we need to light our rooms earlier, why not update your lamps with some cool patterned fabric shades. Another way to update your lamps or ceiling fixtures is to change the bulbs. Vintage style filament bulbs have become very fashionable now and they give off a great light. So remember whatever you do this fall, live, love and decorate!" Try: Ethan Allen Silk Shade ($39) and CB2 Filament Bulb ($10)
