Lanvin’s Timeless Styling Trick

by Nicky Deam

Lanvin is beloved by the most discerning fashion girls. The designer Alber Elbaz reliably produces beautifully crafted pieces with an old-world sophistication that still feel modern and totally wearable. Needless to say, we’re big fans—who doesn’t want to look unique, chic and expensive?—and the effortless glamour of the Fall 2015 collection didn’t disappoint. We can’t necessarily afford all of it, but we can steal the salient styling trick used throughout the show: Top every outfit with a serious statement coat. Ranging from embroidered capes to printed dusters, the easiest way to channel the Lanvin look is to go bold with your outerwear. Which style will you chose?

A Bold, Printed Duster

Layer a long, printed coat over a printed dress for instant print-mixing perfection.

A Shaggy Faux Fur Vest

A long faux fur vest lends a gypset vibe to any outfit.

A Vibrant Wool Coat

Whether it's a rich jewel tone or a bright primary color, you can't go wrong by adding a vibrant topper to dark separates.

A Swinging Shearling

If you haven't already jumped on board with the shearling trend, get into it immediately. As proven here, it looks just as great over neutral separates as it does over bohemian maxi dresses.

A Classic Striped Trench

Trenches are a no-brainer, particularly during the spring, but why not ditch your khaki style in favor of a more original, striped version?

An Embroidered Cape

Not for the sartorially shy, an embroidered cape is a real head-turner. Opt for a short version over tailored pants or a dramatic calf-length style over a simple dress.
