How To Fly In Style

by Nicky Deam

Boarding a long flight is a lot of things, but an excuse to look sloppy is not one of them. That’s why we’ve put together a guide to dressing for travel which will ensure that you not only look polished in-transit, but arrive in style too. Sadly we can’t do anything about the screaming toddler sitting behind you.

Yes, you can look this good when waiting for a cab post-flight.

Structured Jacket

A chic topper will pull your entire look together and keep you warm in-flight. Look for printed styles that will conceal any stains (turbulence!) and a structured shape that won't wrinkle easily.

Thin Sweater

A long-sleeved cashmere sweater will carry you through every flight—and trip, for that matter—so it's definitely worth the investment. Choose a gentle pastel shade that won't look harsh against tired skin.

Forgiving Jeans

You want a style that won't lose shape but will be comfortable to sit in for hours. This dark grey pair from J Brand delivers on both fronts, and has a high waistband to keep you pulled together, literally.

Slip-On Flats

Assuming you aren't lucky enough to be funneled into the TSA Pre-Check line, taking your shoes off and putting them back on again, quickly, is a top priority. Opt for a slip-on flat in a neutral color that will work with the outfits in your suitcase.

Hold-All

A roomy tote with loads of internal compartments will keep your essentials handy. Extra points for the option to switch between top handles and a long shoulder strap.

Blanket Scarf

Forgo the overused airline blanket, you've brought your own cashmere version. Use as a scarf when running through the airport.

World of Comfort

Consider this the travel trifecta. Noise-cancelling headphones will stave off the insanity brought on my endless hours of jet propellers. Thick ragg socks will keep your toes toasty. Most importantly, a cashmere sleep mask will let you sleep long after your work-a-holic seatmate decides to open the shade.
