Are You A Chanel Or Gucci Girl? Here’s How To ID Your Signature Designer Style

by Kristi Mikesky

While it’s rare to see someone walking down the street in one designer head-to-toe, it’s quite the opposite in the case of big events for storied fashion houses. The A-list attendees at these branded soirees seize the opportunity to turn it out in the current season’s hallmark pieces, and witnessing such confections making their off-the-runway debut proves a delight for onlooking fashion lovers. Last night, in two very different locations, the polarization of designer aesthetics came to a head as Gucci and Chanel fêted with a host of their most fabulous friends. In London, Alexa Chung, Georgia May Jagger and more It Brits came correct for Gucci’s Resort 2017 after-party in an array of loud-and-proud sequins, ruffles and pastels, a true testament to designer Alessandro Michele’s more-is-more signature. In New York, our EIC Rachel Zoe joined the likes of Allison Williams at the New York Public Library for Chanel’s Fine Jewelry dinner, in which guests dressed in a largely neutral color palette and languid, elegant silhouettes that reflect the brand’s classic, refined standard. The juxtaposition of the two ongoings demonstrates a sharp contrast that ultimately rouses the question: if given the choice, Gucci or Chanel? Ahead, peruse key looks from both parties to determine which style you identify with more.
