There are some fictional names that go down in fashion history, thanks to their sought-after wardrobes and era-defining style: Carrie Bradshaw, Holly Golightly and Cher Horowitz are just a few. And while real-life equivalents Sarah Jessica Parker and Audrey Hepburn shared their characters’ sartorial appreciations, Alicia Silverstone recently admitted that she’s not quite the fashionista her ’90s heroine proved to be.
“I wore jeans and a green T-shirt every single day, and that was it,” the actress revealed in an interview. “I just didn’t get fashion at all.”
Alicia acknowledged that she made a major fashion faux pas when she got to keep the majority of Cher’s closet—only to toss out the most iconic pieces. (Our hearts go out to her yellow plaid separates.)
“I took so much of the clothes, and I’m really sad because I don’t have any of them anymore—because, like a ding dong, I got home with so many of the clothes and I was like, ‘How am I going to wear these Mary Janes out now?'” she said. “That girl who wore jeans and a green T-shirt didn’t know how to transition out of that wardrobe, so I just gave a lot of it away.”
To the lucky ladies out there who became the unlikely recipients, please handle Cher’s clothes with care—or you can just send them our way.
