I would never argue that a crisp white shirt is a tried and true staple belonging in everyone’s closet, but today I want to present an updated spin on the look—the always classic, never boring shirt-dress. This sophisticated silhouette got its start in the seventies by some of fashion’s greatest heroes—like Yves Saint Laurent and Halston—and is currently making a big revival. One of my favorite young designers, Jenni Kayne, executed the trend brilliantly with today’s Silk Georgette Smock Dress.
While I obviously endorse dressing to the nines at all times, sometimes we have no choice but to throw something on and head out the door. Whenever you find yourself in said scenario, a shirt-dress will come to your rescue. Slip into one with a simple black belt and statement necklace for some immediate and effortless style. Keep your hair naturally wavy and makeup to a minimum…think Lauren Hutton:) You can also take a Parisian-chic route by pairing your shirt-dress with tights, black heels and a bright red lip. Trés trés chic. xoRZ
