Spring Spikes
Just in time for the New Year, I had the privilege of conducting a short interview with one of fashion’s most sought-after jewelry designers—Pamela Love—to discuss her Spring 2011 collection. Truth: it is insane! Read on to learn about her favorite pieces, what inspires her cutting-edge designs and a few insider tips on how to excessorize! xoRZ
RZ: As one of fashion’s most coveted and forward-thinking jewelry designers, every last one of your creations is of impeccable quality and statement-makingly cool—what inspires your design process? PL: I love to travel and explore jewelry designs, techniques, and traditions throughout the world. This always plays a large role in my inspiration. For the past few seasons I have really been referencing imagery and jewelry from Mexico, Native America, Africa, and India.
RZ: Your latest collection for spring is a true tribal dream—full of sick spikes, antique metals and triangles—what are some of your personal favorite pieces for the upcoming season? PL: My favorites are the Tribal Spike Cuffs in resin as well as the Tribal Spike Chain Earrings. I wear them all the time.
RZ: To me jewelry is everything because it can enhance a look for any occasion. How do you recommend accessorizing an outfit with jewels by day versus by night? PL: I really love to pile on jewelry during the day, usually with an old plain t-shirt and some jeans. For dressing up, I think it’s more about a few statement pieces: a bold necklace, a single strong cuff, etc.
RZ: With New Year’s Eve right around the corner, my readers are busy planning their party-ready looks. Do you have any insider’s tips on accessorizing for the holiday? PL: Have fun with what you are wearing.
RZ: Jewelry aside, what are you coveting for spring? Any favorite trends? PL: Lots of mixed prints, especially florals.
