The US Women’s Gymnastics Team Just Made History

by Kristi Mikesky

The hype around the US women’s gymnastics team has been strong, and it’s been rightfully earned—the “Final Five” just clenched the gold medal in Rio. Surpassing China and Russia with a score of 184.897, this marks the US women’s team’s second consecutive win at the Olympic games and thus, makes them the first to win back-to-back gold in the finals.

Congratulations to Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman—these ladies have really done the US proud. In case you missed it, watch the women’s team final here.

Update 8/16: Simone Biles reached yet another milestone at the 2016 Olympics—she is the first gymnast on the US team to ever win four gold medals. According to Huffington Post, this is the first time since 1968 that a gymnast has taken home four golds in one Olympics. Simone is certainly living up to her nickname as the “Michael Jordan of gymnastics” with her performance in Rio—and winning hearts left and right, including one very smitten Zac Efron.
