This Is Us Season 2 Is Officially Filming—Here’s Everything You Need To Know

This Is Us is a bit of a shameless tearjerker, which may be why we love it so, as we need nothing more in this day and age than a cathartic cry (or 100 of them). Now that season two has officially begun filming, we’re anxious to find out what the show’s creators have in store for us in terms of both the heart-wrenching and heartwarming moments which have made the show so popular. We don’t know a ton at this point, but what we can confirm is that the younger versions of Kate and Kevin—played by Mackenzie Hancsicsak and Parker Bates, respectively—will have enough storylines in the second season to warrant their promotion to series regulars. Their teenage versions, along with that of Randall’s character, also received series regular status, so look for more of them as well. Finally, Miguel (Jon Huertas) and Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge) were also promoted, so we expect them to receive their fair share of airtime in the new season.

That’s all well and good, but we’re most excited about with respect to season two is that we’re going to, at long last, find out how Jack met an untimely death. “One thing I can tell you, you will learn how Jack died in the first episode of Season 2,” Mandy Moore told Larry King in an interview. “That’s what we’ve been told.” And if you think he was murdered by Miguel, the best friend who ends up with Jack’s wife after he dies, you’re apparently wrong. Our theory? Death by plane crash, and it would explain Kate’s fear of flying and Kevin’s decision to throw out all of his toy planes after his father’s death. The show returns in just a few short months—September to be exact—so we suggest you ready your bets now.
