Sarah Jessica Parker may no longer step out in a head full of bountiful spiral curls, but it wasn’t so easy to convince her to change her look when she first started acting. During her appearance on People’s The Jess Cagle Interview, SJP revealed that she turned down a major movie role because they wanted her to cut and dye her curls. Of being offered the role of Rusty in Footloose, she said: “They wanted me to cut my hair off and dye it red because the character’s name was Rusty, and I was like, ‘Oh God, my hair just grew back from Annie.’”
“I couldn’t imagine cutting my hair off and dyeing it red again, and being a redhead didn’t really suit me, so I passed, and they hired Tracy Nelson,” she continued. However, the role ended up not working for Tracy and SJP was back onboard, and was allowed to keep her naturally spiraled hair in tact for the blockbuster. If Sarah had said yes to changing her look for her breakout role, she might’ve never been noticed to be casted as Carrie Bradshaw. Can you imagine Carrie Bradshaw sans curls? We can’t either.
