In today’s age of perfect-10 post-baby bodies, another celebrity mom is speaking out about her struggle with postpartum depression. Chrissy Teigen, unapologetic truth teller and social media queen, appeared on the Today show and revealed the changes that took place after she gave birth to daughter Luna in April. What she had to say was not only super relatable, but also telling of a problem that affects one in seven moms in their first year of motherhood.
“I think I was slightly cursed by having such a great pregnancy and being so happy and having so much energy that the decline of all those endorphins and all the prenatals and everything I was on naturally made my mood change,” Chrissy said. “There were periods where you get super dark.”
The model has always been candid about her personal experiences, particularly her views on first-time parenting and Internet mommy shamers. This time, she admitted that it’s easier for women like her (in the public eye) to quickly shed those pregnancy pounds due to the privilege of service.
“We have nutritionists, we have dietitians, we have trainers, we have our own schedules, we have nannies. We have people who make it possible for us to get back into shape,” she said. “But nobody should feel like that’s normal or like that’s realistic.”
Thank you, Chrissy, for using your superstar status to discuss issues important to us women.
