To kick off the highly anticipated Met Gala on a celebratory note, the fashion set turned up to toast this year’s theme (China: Through The Looking Glass) at Vogue.com’s pajama party, held at a dim sum house in NYC’s Chinatown neighborhood (natch). Though the theme was overtly geared toward sporting ensembles fit for the boudoir, there’s certainly something to be said about how to pull off a pajama-inspired look for evening. A perfect solution for those of us who are prone to lounging in our pjs before finally deciding to go out (“just one more glass of wine!”), take styling cues from these fashion all-stars on how to turn your beloved nighties into a fabulous night-out look.

To break up a matching top-and-bottom pajama set, cinch an obi belt at your waist.

Alexa Chung

Add structure to a longer, nightgown-inspired dress by throwing on a blazer rendered in a textured fabric (velvet, woven jacquard, etc).

Fei Fei Sun

Play with mixing and matching traditional pajama prints (chinoiserie, florals, stripes and the like) in your satiny separates to give the look a modern twist.

Chloë Sevigny

To amp up the drama for evening, add a long, robe-like wrap coat over your ensemble to lend cozy-chic vibes to the look.
