Michelle Obama Commissioned A Killer New Female Empowerment Anthem

by Laura Lajiness Kaupke

There’s nothing better than a girl anthem, and you have Michelle Obama to thank for your next favorite. Joining forces with musical powerhouses Kelly Clarkson, Missy Elliott, Zendaya, Janelle Monáe, Lea Michele, Kelly Rowland and more, the first lady has commissioned a new charity single called “This Is for My Girls,” promoting female empowerment with proceeds going to the White House’s female education initiative, Let Girls Learn. Described by the song’s writer, industry veteran Diane Warren, as “kind of like ‘We Are the World’ meets ‘Lady Marmalade’ with these strong voices and strong women,” the tune truly embodies what Mrs. Obama’s female advocacy stands for: empowering young females to stand up for their right to an education and recognizing their ability to make a difference in the world. Grab “This Is for My Girls” on iTunes now—its inspiring message, catchy lyrics and overall diva power make it a shoo-in for your girl-gang playlist.
