She’s been celebrated time and again, but now Marilyn Monroe is receiving a unique tribute from an unlikely devotee. Whoopi Goldberg has curated a month-long exhibit dedicated to the Hollywood icon, and it’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Called “Marilyn: Character Not Image,” the presentation at Mana Contemporary explores Marilyn’s personal life in a series of portraits taken by her close friend, Milton Greene, as well as poetry, sketches and the iconic dress she wore when she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. Turns out Whoopi is a “huge fan” of the ’50s star and simply wants us to know that celebrities like Marilyn are also “real people with inner thoughts.” The exhibit opens this weekend and runs through October 22.
