Leonardo DiCaprio And The White House Just Made A Major Announcement

by Samantha McDonald

President Obama must have really enjoyed his South by Southwest visit earlier this year because the White House recently announced it’ll host its own version of the Austin event. Fittingly called South by South Lawn, the “festival of ideas, art, and action” on October 3 is the first of its kind and introduces a star-studded lineup with climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, the cast of Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things and Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor and our commander in chief will discuss climate change followed by a screening of Leo’s new documentary, Before the Flood.

A longtime climate-change activist, Leo used his Oscar acceptance speech this year to shine a spotlight on the cause. “Climate change is real. It is happening right now,” he said. “It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”
