Kendall Jenner Deleted Her Instagram Account, And The Internet Is Going Crazy

by Samantha McDonald

Update 11/16/2016:

After her disappearance from social media made international headlines, Kendall Jenner decided to address the lingering question: Why did she delete her Instagram account? In an interview on Ellen, the model explained that she just needed a break and had no idea that deactivating her account would cause such an uproar. “It’s so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that,” she said. “I guess I didn’t expect it.”

Kendall added that she deleted Twitter from her phone, not thinking anybody would care about either purge. But then friends and family started sending her links of news outlets that covered her digital detox. “I would wake up in the morning, and I would look at it first thing. I would go to bed, and it was the last thing that I would look at,” she admitted. “I felt a little too dependent on it.”

However, the good news is that Kendall does plan on returning to Instagram when the time is right. Her message to fans: “I’ll be back.” And we’re counting on it.

Original: It just got harder to keep up with this member of the Kardashian clan. Without warning or explanation, Kendall Jenner apparently deleted her Instagram account yesterday, surprising millions of followers and spurring talk of a possible digital detox for the model. The 21-year-old’s Facebook and Twitter pages remain active, but it seems that she’s taking a break from the photo-sharing service, and the Internet has already come up with theories about her sudden absence.

Whether it’s about the backlash after her Vogue Spain ballet shoot or the recent acquittal of her stalker, the length of her social media hiatus remains unclear. In an interview with Allure in September, she revealed that she’s not such a big fan of screen time. “I definitely have close friends, and even some family members, who are so connected to their phone and can’t get off of it,” she said, referring to a vacation during which little sister Kylie was constantly on her phone. “That was the moment it kind of clicked for me. And I didn’t like it. So sometimes I delete Instagram or Twitter or Snapchat off my phone for a couple days.”

Kendall is not the only sister to scale back. Since she was held at gunpoint in Paris, Kim K has been radio silent on all platforms. So if you find a need to keep up with another Kardashian, here’s an image from the new (and verified!) Instagram account of Rob and Blac Chyna’s newborn, Dream Kardashian:
