Karl Lagerfeld’s Latest Side Hustle Is Genius

by Samantha McDonald

Karl Lagerfeld is no stranger to creative side projects. From designing bottles for Diet Coke to the lobbies of a luxury condo in Miami, Chanel’s creative director is constantly expanding his portfolio, and this month is no different. In a collaboration with Faber-Castell, the Kaiser himself has launched a new collection of 350 fine art tools and supplies just in time for back-to-school season. Aptly named Karlbox, the limited-edition line is fitting for a designer whose sketches have often been found in his offices. Inside the black lacquered box, which resembles a Chinese wedding chest, drawers of pencils and pastels are segregated by color, and the set also comes with a foldable Clic & Go water cup. At a price tag of $2,850, the tool kit is not exactly budget-friendly, but only 2,500 of the boxes have been made. Karlbox can be purchased online or at Faber-Castell stores and Karl Lagerfeld boutiques starting today.
