There's no doubt 2017 has been a tough year for celebrity romance. From Brangelina's "it's complicated" moment to Jay-Z's infidelity truth bomb on his 4:44 album, we've been hanging onto Hollywood's golden couples as proof true love still exists. So imagine how it warmed our hearts when we heard that relationship-goals duo Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were supposed to meet much earlier than 2011, the year they started dating, through their Friends auditions.
Turns out, Justin had just moved to New York City when he had the chance to audition for various TV sitcoms, including Friends—yes, the same hit show that propelled his now-wife to worldwide recognition for her portrayal of Rachel Green. But as fate would have it, he ended up missing the tryout—for a very relatable reason. "I slept in that day," Justin admits in an interview for Mr. Porter. "I wouldn't have been prepared for [the fame]." Fortunately time did the thing, and he married Jennifer 20 years later. (The two just celebrated their second wedding anniversary.) Although he didn't reveal the role for which he was meant to audition, we can only wonder what would've been if he'd ended up playing Ross. Swoon.
