Chrissy Teigen Shares Her Surprising But Relatable Struggle With Booze

We’ve always assumed that Chrissy Teigen is the life of any party she attends. And while we doubt we were wrong, the model insinuated to Cosmopolitan that she may have actually been too much in the past, due to her affinity for alcoholic beverages. Speaking with the outlet while at the Chase Sapphire Sundays: Brunch with Chrissy Teigen event in Venice Beach, California, over the weekend, she admitted that she and husband John Legend recently enjoyed a wellness retreat in Bali in order to reset bad habits. “I was, point blank, just drinking too much,” she said. “And then I felt bad for making kind of an ass of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there’s just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for John, for anybody.” Some of the circumstances in which she specifically mentioned overindulging—while getting her makeup done, and at awards shows—may not be super-relatable, but her talk around the ills of day drinking, specifically in a brunch setting, definitely hit close to home. “People think it’s cutesy and fun to go on these boozy brunches, but there’s more to it. I’ve never once been like, ‘I’m sure glad I had that boozy brunch!'” So real, right?

Of her alcohol-free time in Bali, Teigen said, “I would wake up feeling amazing. My skin felt amazing. I was just so happy.” Though she also opened up about the history of alcohol abuse in her family, she said she “used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober.” Now, however, she may feel differently. “I don’t want to be that person. … I have to fix myself.” Teigen has solid motivation at present to do so, too, as she told Cosmo that she and her hubby would soon be trying for baby number two, via IVF.

As always, we love Chrissy for being so candid about her life and the very real and relatable struggles she faces despite fame. Here’s hoping she is able to figure out a healthy balance or successfully ban booze for good. We’re inspired, thanks to her vulnerable interview, to do the same!
