Beyoncé Gives Her First Statement Since Welcoming The Twins

by Samantha McDonald

She’s refrained from stepping into the spotlight since giving birth to twins, but Beyoncé still manages to make headlines—this time for an acceptance speech at the BET Awards that marks her first statement since the Bey-bies were born.

On Sunday, the superstar received the Viewers’ Choice Award for Lemonade’s “Sorry,” the post-heartbreak anthem that dominated our playlists last summer. Although Bey couldn’t make it to the ceremony, her protégés, R&B duo Chloe x Halle, appeared onstage to accept the award on her behalf—and they relayed her uplifting message to the crowd, thanking BET for its support of her wildly successful album, her mother, Tina Knowles, for “being my biggest, biggest teacher” and of course the Beyhive (us!).

“This has been a journey of love, of celebrating our culture, honoring the past and approaching the present and future with hope and resolve,” Bey wrote. She may not have addressed news of the twins (in true Beyoncé fashion, we might just have to wait for another explosive announcement), but her speech certainly served up a good dose of Monday motivation. Listen to the rest of it via Chloe x Halle here.
