While there were rumors swirling that Beyoncé may show up to the fete, nothing was confirmed, which was particularly suspicious in light of the fact that the recipient of the Fashion Icon Award was kept hush-hush until lo and behold Queen Bey entered the stage to receive the storied accolade in—what else?—a sparkling Givenchy pantsuit and oversize black hat, casually adorned with $9 million worth of jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz. Would you expect any less from the megastar? With the epic drop of her visual album Lemonade, her current world tour domination and the Fashion Icon Award under her belt, it’s safe to say she’s having the best year ever.
