Ashley Graham Just Landed Fashion’s Most Coveted Gig

by Samantha McDonald

Ashley Graham slayed 2016. On top of her usual campaigns, the model appeared on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and starred in pop band DNCE’s music video for “Toothbrush” alongside Joe Jonas. Now she adds another line to her résumé: British Vogue‘s January 2017 front cover star.

This accomplishment marks a couple of firsts—for Ashley, her first time gracing the cover of the prestigious magazine, and for Vogue U.K., its first time featuring a plus-size model on the cover. With legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier behind the lens, Ashley looked absolutely amazing with natural makeup and windswept hair, sporting a Coach leather jacket with patches, chains and lace details over a simple white tee.

“For 10 years I’d been told I was always going to be a catalogue girl, never a cover girl,” she said in the interview. “Well, I got with IMG and did five covers in a year—boom, boom, boom.”

Ashley launched her career modeling lingerie for Lane Bryant and remains a strong advocate for body diversity. “A lot of who I am is connected to my size, and I am so happy with who I am,” she said. We couldn’t be happier for her, too.
