Coast To Coast: How Two Style Influencers Master The Casual-Made-Luxe Look For Fall

By Oona Kyung

Personal style is inherently complex, but there is always something to be said for simplicity. Upended routines have changed the way all of us dress — and this fall we’re rethinking our wardrobes in favor of straightforward looks with a casual-made-luxe edge.

No matter where you might be headed (or staying put) in the coming months, Theory’s RTW Fall 2020 collection is the perfect place to start. The brand’s fall collection presents a polished-yet-playful mix of femininity and thoughtful tailoring, offering the familiar in a new and relevant way; relaxed suiting and military influences delicately woven in harmony. It’s a standout collection for Theory that's made to be mixed and matched to fit your personal capsule wardrobe with ease. And to demonstrate just that, we partnered with two style experts, Tara Leigh Rose and Kelsey White, to show us how they're wearing their favorite pieces in their coastal locales this fall. Yin and Yang, Rose and White live on the East and West Coast, and very much embody the adaptable nature of the collection itself. Explore their looks ahead to inspire your own.

KELSEY WHITE

“Polished, uncomplicated, and feminine” is how West Coast fashion guru Kelsey White describes her personal style. Palm trees and sunshine lend a lightness and ease to White’s lifestyle, and her wardrobe is an extension of that laidback energy. “Many pieces from the collection are versatile, making them easy to layer and dress up or dress down,” she says.

“Pair these leather pants with a tee and sneakers for a casual Sunday, or this white coat with denim, a bodysuit, and heels for an evening out to dinner.”

White embraces the comforts of the Clairene Shawl Coat and Ribbed Knit Top with the Adbelle Leather Pants, adding subtle edge to a familiar fall formula. Pro tip: “Light layers and transitional staples are your best friends during fall.”

TARA ROSE

Over on the East Coast, dressing yourself also means dressing for the weather. For this look, Rose opts for sartorial classics paired with minimal earrings and heeled leather boots. “Layering is key because you can experience different climates within the same day. The East Coast during fall and winter is quite cold, so I really look for quality, elegant materials that are going to keep me warm.”

This ultra-wearable suit offers three looks in one — wear the blazer as a separate with jeans, pair the trousers with a cozy sweater, or wear the set together for a chic, polished outfit. “The utilitarian side of me is in love with that concept,” Rose says.

And a little bit of advice for those of us in more seasonal climates: “look for quality pieces you can transition from season to season, year over year.”
