Would You Wear Face Glitter For GNO?

by Cary Spitzer

Earlier this week, a group of Hollywood beauties hit the Taylor Swift concert wearing what we hope is the next big thing in makeup. Nina Dobrev, Julianne Hough, Zelda Williams and their friends all sported glittery graphic art, like gold shooting stars, baby blue swirls and rhinestone accents, around their eyes and temples. The effect was playful and cool, and anything but infantile.

Fall beauty trends already pointed to out-there eye makeup, so we consider this the next logical step. However, if you’re not ready for full-on face paint a la My Little Pony, not to fret. You can still get in on the glitter game with something a little more subtle in sparkle. Today, we rounded up five top products to make you shimmer, whether you prefer a faint iridescence or a statement shimmer, like Dobrev, Hough & Co. Shop our selects now and you’ll be shining at your next Girls’ Night Out.

Sephora Collection Colorful Shadow & Liner, $18

These thick sticks come in 30 shimmering shades that let you ease into the Ziggy Stardust look. Try a thick cat-eye with this turquoise hue.

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eye Liner, $20

This eye liner's gel formula and skinny brush let you get super-close to the lash line; try extending the swirls to your cheeks and temples a la Julianne Hough.

Make Up For Ever Glitter, $15

These straight-forward body glitters come in little pots, like the ones you used to love in middle school. Available in six shades, the finish is more translucent, so pat over brighter colors to create depth.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Glitter, $14

This stuff is the Holy Grail of body glitter. It’s composed of micro-fine particles in thirteen saturated colors that are anything but subtle. Create a clean line by applying with a wet brush, or go all the way and pat onto skin with damp fingers.

Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow, $32

Stila twists the glitter concept with a foil texture that's more metallic and shiny than sparkly, perfect for recreating Dobrev's gold star. It includes a liquid primer that sets the skin for all-day wear and also seals the foil after application.
