See The Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette Swatched On 3 Skin Tones
When the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette swatches were first teased on Snapchat a couple months ago, I went on the deepest of deep dives into the seven-years-in-the-making beauty palette. I found every Instagram that Kat Von D had ever posted mentioning the palette, went on message boards, and generally daydreamed of trying it out. Yesterday, I, along with two other Allure editors, finally got to play with it. This may sound hyperbolic, but it was totally a religious experience. Just the sight of the packaging moved me. Then, when it came to actually swatching it, I just about cried when I saw how holographic the {Pink} Opal shade is with my own two eyes.
From the photo below, you can see how the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette really looks on three different skin tones. On bare skin, the pigments have a pastel hue with an awesome color-shifting finish. The first shade is {Green} Emerald, which looks awesome as an eye shadow. Below it is {Blue} Saphyre. One of our editors tapped it on top of navy blue liquid lipstick, and she radiated all the Rihanna vibes. Next is {Ultra-Violet} Amethyst. I tried it as a highlighter and fell in love. It’s like a more pigmented version of the Milk Makeup Holographic Stick. The last one is my fave: {Pink} Opal. No matter how you use it, it looks amazing. However, I strongly suggest trying it as a brow highlighter, or on the Cupid’s bow of your mouth to make your lips really stand out.
We also swatched the holographic shades over a black liquid lipstick from Sephora Collection to see if it would intensify the shades. As you can see, it did tenfold. The black base kind of turned them into jewel tones. You can also use them over a dark eye-shadow primer; our current go-to is the new Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer in Smoke.
